Diane Donohue led Delaware’s teachers’ union (the Delaware State Education Association) after having served in the field of education for more than 20 years. She attracted national attention for her leadership as the President of DSEA and for her role in Delaware’s first-place winning Race to the Top application in 2010. Diane’s collaborative and solutions-oriented leadership was a major reason why Delaware was able to receive $119 million to implement education improvements in Delaware. After leading DSEA, Diane worked as Special Assistant for Educator Effectiveness, at the Delaware Department of Education where she led the design and implementation of the state’s new educator evaluation system. Diane retired from her work at the state a few years ago and now leads an education consultancy—Empower Education Consulting Services (EECS)—she founded. Diane’s experiences provide her with a unique perspective in addressing the nuances of education policy, regulation, and governance. Diane resides in Milton, DE. When she is not traveling the country with her husband Chuck and her dog Lizzie, she continues her passion for education through work with her consulting company.
